Vanessa
Originally from Canada, Vanessa moved to São Miguel in 2023 to discover her family’s roots. She fell in love with the calmness of the Island and decided to make it her permanent home. An avid solo traveler, Vanessa sought out to create a guesthouse perfect for solo travelers, particularly women like herself. Thus was born the Vagabond Mermaid! Vanessa is passionate about ensuring that her guests make the most of their trip to the Island. She lives in the house and is always around to give itinerary advice, listen to the stories about your days of exploration, or to offer a fresh towel or cup of coffee.
When she’s not sharing her love of the Island with her guests, you can find her teaching dance, reading, or hiking with her dog Charlie.
Charlie
A local micaelense girl, Charlie spent her first 4 years of life in the dog shelter. When Vanessa was looking for some help with her new Guesthouse business, she saw Charlie’s picture pop up on social media and immediately fell in love. She picked her up from the shelter, and hired her as the guesthouse’s greeter, security guard, and sometimes cleaning lady when you accidentally drop some of your breakfast. Since then, Charlie has happily accepted belly rubs from hundreds of guests and is mentioned positively in almost every single review. A star employee, through and through!
